The backstory:
Aly and
A Listening Life™

What's the euphemistic way of saying that I've been doing this for a long time...? Experienced? Established? Accomplished even? The truth is, I've made a real hash of lots of decisions in business, and made business life much harder for myself at times. I've also made some great decisions, had some wonderful experiences and learned so much along the way from great teachers, books, life lessons and clients. I now run a successful coaching consultancy, leading a team of incredible coaches and facilitators doing really important work in the STEM sector. 2025 was the toughest year in business I can remember (and I remember 2008!) Again, it brought the gift of lessons to learn, but colleagues are telling me they're running out of steam.
Never has the world needed great coaching more than now. So much feels hard and worrying in the media, and news of another financial crunch is brewing. I'm more convinced than ever that the time is right for A Listening Life to build the commercial confidence in more Coaches.
I've been an Executive Coach since 2005, post-grad qualified and self-employed since 2013. I run several businesses (because I love variety) and finally feel as if I've got the hang of things. I still make plenty of mistakes; who doesn't? - but now I trust that they're part of the game.
A Listening Life is the 'offer' I wish I'd had in the first few years when I was making a meal out of self-employment. A combination of the steady hand of an established colleague, and a group of curious and supportive peers.
I'm upset to hear so many coaches are struggling to get their balance in the freelance world and believe we have to step up and develop the business skills of coaches, in order to have the powerful and wonderful impact on the world that coaching could bring.
I'm now doing this in three key ways:
1) Monthly online Coach-Mentoring Small Groups
2) Residential Programmes for Coaches
3) The podcast
My giant thanks to all the incredible guests who've freely shared their wisdom and insights on the podcast.
They're all so individual and different from each other, I have no doubt that one or more of these episodes will bring value to any freelance coach, or to someone considering making the leap.
The trailer to the podcast is a good way to hear me speak, and get a feel for whether I might be useful to you..
I live in North Devon and work indoors and out with clients globally. The picture shows me in my favourite state. Outdoors, with the dog somewhere out of sight, by the sea. Come here and work, or meet online. I'd love to see you in a mentoring group soon.
Thank you for reading this far, and I hope you'll explore ways that we I might be useful in your business.
All the very best of luck and good wishes for your freelance coaching business as you build A Listening Life.
